Literacy
My reading program is multi-leveled and involves the following components:

Guided oral reading has a positive impact on word recognition, fluency and comprehension. Teaching a combination of reading comprehension techniques, such as question and answering, prediction, summarizing, character analysis, conflict and plot development.

I use a variety of resources and methods:

Read alouds
Book groups
Literature Circles
Comprehension checks
Individualized reading instruction

The Vermont benchmarks guide my instruction. Mrs. Maynard, Mrs. DaBica and Mrs. Vincent are the reading teachers for the 5/6 Literacy Block.

The students will complete spelling and vocabulary during the 5/6 literacy block.

The ANWSU uses a keyboarding program in grades 3-6. This program is 10-15 minutes per day. Students will complete this during the 5/6 literacy block.

We are concerned with the handwriting and cursive that our students use and need to read. Students will spend time during their literacy block practicing handwriting and cursive.
